Smoked Maras Salt – 600 g Pouch

Maras pink salt combined with a smoky flavor. The smoke is present but remains discreet: it gives the taste of wood-fired cooking without overpowering what's on the plate.

When to use it

Red meats, pork, lamb, chicken. Baked potatoes, asparagus, eggplant, mushrooms. Salmon, tuna, octopus. And a pinch on butter or dark chocolate, if you want to see what it tastes like.

The Maras salt pans

At an altitude of 3,300 meters, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a salty underground spring feeds about 3,000 ponds carved into the mountainside. The water evaporates in the sun, the salt settles, and the families of Maras harvest it with shovels as they have done since pre-Inca times. Each pond belongs to a family in the village.

This is not sea salt: it comes from a fossil aquifer, which gives it its pink color and a less biting taste.
